Jesus prepares His disciples for what is coming, Believe Also In Me. He tells them not to let their hearts be troubled, because believing in God also means believing in Him. Jesus is going to the Father to prepare a place, but He will not leave His followers alone. He promises the Holy Spirit, teaches obedience, offers His peace, and declares that the prince of this world has no hold over Him.

📖 John 14:1-3 (NIV)
“14 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
John 14 brings us into a deeply important moment in God’s Redemption Plan.
Jesus knows that His earthly ministry is coming to its final hours, yet His message is not one of defeat. It is a message of victory, hope, obedience, and eternal life.
When Thomas asks how they can know the way, Jesus gives one of the clearest declarations of who He is:
“I am the way and the truth and the life.”
Jesus also explains that His words are not spoken independently of the Father.
The Father is working through Him. His mission is obedience to God’s will.
Then Jesus promises the Holy Spirit—the Advocate and Spirit of truth—who will remain with His followers.
They will not be abandoned.
The chapter ends with a powerful declaration. Satan is coming, but “he has no hold over me.”
Jesus willingly follows the Father’s command. Nothing can stop God’s plan.
The cross is not Satan’s victory; it is part of God’s Redemption Plan through Jesus Christ.
📖 John 14:4-7 (NIV)
“4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
“5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
“6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know[b] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
Jesus does not merely show His followers a way to God—He declares that He is the way.
Our faith cannot rest only on what we see around us.
Jesus asks us to believe in Him because He is united with the Father and sent by the Father.
The question becomes personal: Do we believe what Jesus says?
Faith begins when we trust the One who tells us the truth, even before we can see the destination.
📖 John 14:8-11 (NIV)
“8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
“9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. “
Jesus connects love with obedience.
He says that those who love Him will keep His commands.
Obedience does not purchase salvation. Instead, obedience demonstrates that our hearts have responded to Christ.
God’s Covenant has always called His people toward faithfulness.
Jesus now shows His disciples that following Him is more than hearing His words—it means putting those words into action.
We can say that we believe, but our choices reveal what we truly believe.
📖 John 14:12-15 (NIV)
“12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”
15 “If you love me, keep my commands.”
Jesus knew His disciples would face uncertainty after He returned to the Father.
Therefore, He promised the Advocate—the Holy Spirit.
The Spirit of truth would teach them, remind them of Jesus’ words, and remain with them.
This is part of God’s mercy. Jesus would physically leave them, but God would not abandon them.
The believer’s journey is not meant to be walked alone.
God provides His presence and guidance as we continue following Christ.
📖 John 14:16-22 (NIV)
” 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[c] in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
“22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”
Jesus says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.”
His peace is different from what the world offers.
Christ’s peace comes from knowing who holds our future.
Jesus knew the cross was ahead.
He knew betrayal was coming. He knew suffering was coming.
Yet He remained obedient.
That teaches us something important: peace does not always mean the absence of trouble.
Sometimes peace means knowing God is still in control while we walk through it.

“23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.”
“25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
“28 “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. 29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe. 30 I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, 31 but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me.”
“Come now; let us leave.
Near the end of the chapter, Jesus says that the prince of this world is coming, “He has no hold over me.”
Satan would act through betrayal and opposition, but he could not control Jesus.
Jesus was not forced into God’s Redemption Plan.
He willingly obeyed the Father.
The enemy could not take Jesus’ life from Him.
Jesus would lay it down according to the Father’s command.
That changes how we should see the cross.
It was not God’s plan failing—it was God’s plan being fulfilled.
Jesus’ promise to prepare a place for His followers demonstrates that God’s Covenant is not abandoned when circumstances become difficult.
The disciples would soon watch Jesus suffer and die, but God’s plan was moving forward.
Jesus promised to return and bring His people to Himself.
He promised the Holy Spirit. He promised life. He promised His peace.
Every promise points toward God’s faithfulness.
Human beings may fail, circumstances may change, and the world may become uncertain, but God’s Covenant stands.
John 14 asks us to examine what we believe when life becomes uncertain.
Can we believe Jesus when we cannot see the destination?
Do we obey Him when obedience is difficult?
Do we trust God when circumstances appear to be moving in the wrong direction?
Jesus tells His disciples not to be troubled.
He gives them truth, promises the Holy Spirit, and reminds them that He is going to the Father.
Our circumstances do not determine whether God’s promises are true.
Jesus does.
And Jesus has already declared that He is the way, the truth, and the life.
John 14 brings God’s Redemption Plan directly to Jesus Christ.
He is the way to the Father. He is the truth that defeats deception.
He is the life that defeats death.
His obedience reveals the Father’s will.
His sacrifice fulfills the Covenant.
The resurrection provides hope beyond the grave.
The promise of the Holy Spirit shows that God’s presence continues with His people.
And when Jesus says that the prince of this world “has no hold over me,” we see the certainty of God’s victory.
The enemy cannot stop what God has planned.
Jesus knows where He came from.
Jesus knows where He is going.
And Jesus knows exactly what He came to accomplish.
Believe also in Him.
