In the beginning, before life, structure, or light existed, there was God. Genesis reveals how creation began through divine order, purpose, and authority. What first appeared formless and empty was already under God’s control as His Spirit hovered over the waters. Day one marks the beginning of light entering darkness and the foundation of everything that would follow. This series will walk step by step through creation, showing how God brings clarity, direction, and purpose from what once seemed empty and without form.
Day One — Light Enters the Darkness
📖 Genesis 1:1–2 (NIV)
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”
There was God.
Genesis begins not with confusion, but with authority. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Everything starts with Him. Before humanity existed, before time was understood, God already was.
At this stage of creation, the earth was:
Formless
Empty
Covered in darkness
There was no order yet visible to mankind. No cities, nations, oceans separated by land, or living creatures. Yet even in what appeared empty, God’s presence was there.
📖 “ Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”
This is important.
Before light entered the world, God was already present over creation. Darkness did not remove His authority. Chaos did not stop His plan.
The beginning of Genesis shows something powerful:
God works through order and purpose.
What seemed empty and without direction was already part of His divine plan. Step by step, creation would begin to take shape.
This is also true in life.
There are moments where things may seem:
unclear
uncertain
without direction
But God still sees the complete picture.
📖 Genesis 1:3-4 (NIV)
“And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness”
The first thing God brings into creation is light.
Light represents:
clarity
direction
separation from darkness
God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness.
📖 Genesis 1: 5 (NIV) “5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.”
Day one marks the beginning of divine order entering creation.
The first day of creation teaches us:
God moves with purpose
God brings order from chaos
Darkness does not overcome His plan
Light begins the process of growth and life
This becomes the foundation for everything that follows in Genesis.
Before the world had shape, God was there.
Before light entered the darkness, His Spirit was present.
The beginning of creation reminds us that even when life feels uncertain or without direction, God is still working with purpose and divine order.
From darkness came light.
And the story had only just begun.
