📖 Revelation 22:1 (NIV)
“22 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb “
📖 Revelation 22:2–5
” 2 down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. 3 No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.”
The final vision of Scripture reveals the river of the water of life flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. On either side stands the tree of life, bearing fruit throughout every season and bringing healing to the nations.
The curse that entered the world through sin is completely removed. God’s servants worship Him, see His face, and reign with Him forever. The redemption plan that began in Genesis reaches its glorious completion in God’s eternal presence.
📖 Revelation 22:6–11 (NIV)
“6 The angel said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God who inspires the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.”
“7 “Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll.”
“8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing them to me. 9 But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your fellow prophets and with all who keep the words of this scroll. Worship God!”
“10 Then he told me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this scroll, because the time is near. 11 Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy.”
The angel declares that these words are trustworthy and true because they come from the Lord Himself. Jesus reminds His people that He is coming soon and blesses those who keep the words of this prophecy.
When John falls before the angel in worship, he is immediately corrected. Worship belongs to God alone. Revelation continually points believers away from created beings and toward the Creator who alone is worthy of praise.
📖 Revelation 22:12–16 (NIV)
“12 “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”
“14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15 Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.”
“16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you[a] this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”
Jesus speaks with authority:
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”
He promises to reward every person according to their response to Him. Those who have washed their robes are welcomed into the Holy City and receive access to the tree of life.
Jesus identifies Himself as the Root and Offspring of David and the Bright Morning Star, confirming once again that He is the promised Messiah through whom God’s covenant is fulfilled.
📖 Revelation 22:17 (NIV)
“17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.”
One of the Bible’s greatest invitations is given to every generation.
“The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!'”
Everyone who is thirsty is invited to receive the free gift of the water of life.
God’s redemption plan has always been an invitation rather than a forced decision. His grace is freely offered to all who place their faith in Jesus Christ.
📖 Revelation 22:18–19 (NIV)
18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. 19 And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.”
John closes Revelation with a solemn warning.
No one is to add to or take away from the words of this prophecy.
God’s Word is complete, trustworthy, and sufficient. Believers are called to faithfully preserve and obey His truth, trusting that every promise He has spoken will come to pass.
📖 Revelation 22:20–21 (NIV)
“20 He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
“21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.”
The Bible concludes with one final promise and one final prayer.
Jesus says,
“Yes, I am coming soon.”
John responds,
“Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.”
The last verse extends grace to all God’s people.
“The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.”
The Bible begins with creation and ends with grace. God’s covenant has been fulfilled, His redemption plan completed, and His people welcomed into eternal fellowship with Him forever.
From Genesis to Revelation, God has remained faithful to every promise.
The final chapter of Scripture reminds us that God’s story has always been one of grace, redemption, and everlasting hope for those who believe.
God’s covenant is fulfilled through Jesus Christ.
Eternal life flows from God’s presence alone.
Worship belongs only to God.
Jesus Christ is the Alpha and the Omega.
Salvation remains a free gift offered to everyone who believes.
God’s Word must be faithfully preserved and obeyed.
Believers are called to remain faithful until Christ returns.
God’s grace is the final message of Scripture.
Eternal companionship with God is the fulfillment of His redemption plan.
Our hope rests in the promise: “Surely I am coming soon.”
Revelation closes with the same hope that has carried believers throughout history: Jesus Christ is coming again. The river of the water of life, the tree of life, and God’s eternal presence reveal the complete fulfillment of His covenant and redemption plan. The final invitation remains open to all who are thirsty, offering the free gift of eternal life through Christ. As Scripture ends with the words, “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen,” it reminds us that God’s story is ultimately one of love, faithfulness, redemption, and everlasting fellowship with Him.
