Humanity was once dead in sin, separated from God and following the ways of this world. Ruler of the Kingdom, yet through His great love and mercy, God made us alive with Christ by grace through faith. His redemption plan not only forgives our sins but brings us into His covenant family, where His Holy Spirit now lives within every believer forever.

📖 Ephesians 2:1-3
“2 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath:
📖 Ephesians 2:4–9
“4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. “
Paul reminds believers of who they once were. Before Christ, all people were spiritually dead because of sin, following the ways of the world and the ruler of the kingdom of the air. Separated from God, humanity could never save itself through human effort.
Yet God, rich in mercy and overflowing with love, made us alive with Christ. Salvation is entirely the work of God’s grace, received through faith and not earned by works. Through Jesus Christ, believers become God’s workmanship, created for the good works He prepared long before.
God’s redemption plan reveals that while sin brought death, His grace brings eternal life through His Son.
📖 Ephesians 2:10–13
“10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
“11 Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called “uncircumcised” by those who call themselves “the circumcision” (which is done in the body by human hands)— 12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”
Paul reminds the Gentile believers that they were once separated from God’s covenant people, strangers to His promises, and living without hope in the world.
Everything changed through Jesus Christ.
Those who were once far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. His sacrifice fulfilled God’s covenant promises, opening the way for all who believe to become part of His family.
The cross removed the greatest separation of all—the barrier between sinful humanity and a holy God.
📖 Ephesians 2:14–18
“14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, 15 by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, 16 and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. 17 He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.”
Jesus Christ is our peace.
Through His death on the cross, He broke down the wall of hostility that once separated Jew and Gentile. In Himself, He created one new people united by faith rather than divided by heritage or human tradition.
By His blood, Christ reconciled both groups to God and gave every believer direct access to the Father through one Holy Spirit.
God’s covenant has always pointed toward unity in Christ, where people from every nation are welcomed into His redemption plan.
📖 Ephesians 2:19–22
“19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.”
Because of Jesus Christ, believers are no longer strangers or foreigners. They are fellow citizens in God’s kingdom and members of His household.
The Church is built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ Himself serving as the chief cornerstone. Every believer becomes part of God’s spiritual temple, joined together through Christ.
Paul concludes with an incredible truth: God now dwells among His people through the Holy Spirit.
From the Garden of Eden to the New Jerusalem, God’s desire has always been to dwell with His people. Through Christ, that promise begins to be fulfilled as believers become His living temple.

Through His blood, every barrier is removed, and believers become citizens of God’s kingdom and members of His household. The Holy Spirit now dwells within His people, reminding us that God’s covenant has always been leading to this glorious reality: through Christ, God lives among His people, and His eternal redemption plan continues to unfold for all who believe.
