Heaven asks, Root of David-one eternal question: Who is worthy to open God’s sealed scroll? Only Jesus Christ—the Lion of the tribe of Judah and the slain Lamb of God—is found worthy. Through His sacrifice, God’s redemption plan continues, and all heaven worships Him, declaring that He alone deserves power, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and praise forever.

📖 Revelation 5:1 (NIV)
“5 Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals”
John sees a scroll sealed with seven seals in the hand of God. No one in heaven or on earth is worthy to open it until Jesus Christ, the Lion of the tribe of Judah and the slain Lamb of God, steps forward. Through His sacrifice, He alone is worthy to reveal and fulfill God’s eternal Redemption Plan.

“2 And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” 3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. 4 I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. 5 Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”
John sees a scroll written on both sides and sealed with seven seals.
A mighty angel asks a question that echoes throughout heaven:
“Who is worthy to open the scroll?”
No created being is found worthy.
John weeps because without someone worthy, God’s plan for the future cannot be revealed.

“6 Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits[a] of God sent out into all the earth. 7 He went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne.”
One of the elders comforts John.
“The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed.”
When John looks, he does not first see a lion.
He sees a Lamb that appears to have been slain.
Jesus is both the victorious King and the sacrificial Lamb.
Because of His death and resurrection, He alone is worthy to take the scroll and open its seals.

“8 And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. 9 And they sang a new song, saying:”
“You are worthy to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
because you were slain,
and with your blood you purchased for God
persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.”

You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign[b] on the earth.”
The four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fall before the Lamb in worship.
Holding harps and golden bowls filled with the prayers of God’s people, they sing a new song.
Jesus is worthy because His blood purchased people from every tribe, language, people, and nation.
Through Him, believers become a kingdom of priests who will reign with God.
This is the fulfillment of God’s covenant reaching every nation.

“11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12 In a loud voice they were saying:”
“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!”
John hears the voices of countless angels surrounding the throne.
Together they proclaim:
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.”
They declare that Jesus alone deserves power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and praise.
All of heaven recognizes Christ as the only Savior and eternal King.

“13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying:
“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be praise and honor and glory and power,
for ever and ever!”
“14 The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped”
Heaven’s worship expands beyond the angels.
Every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth, and in the sea joins together in praise.
The four living creatures proclaim, “Amen.”
The elders fall down and worship.
All creation acknowledges that both God the Father and the Lamb deserve eternal glory.
The Lamb opening the scroll reveals that God’s covenant and Redemption Plan continue exactly as He promised.
Jesus Christ fulfilled God’s promise through His sacrifice on the cross, and He alone has the authority to complete God’s plan for humanity.
Every promise made throughout Scripture finds its fulfillment in Him.
Jesus Christ alone is worthy to open God’s scroll.
The Lion of Judah is also the sacrificial Lamb of God.
Christ’s blood purchased salvation for people from every nation.
God’s Redemption Plan centers on Jesus Christ.
Heaven continually worships the Lamb.
Our prayers are precious before God.
God’s covenant reaches people throughout the world.
Jesus possesses all wisdom, strength, honor, and glory.
Every knee will ultimately acknowledge Christ’s authority.
God’s promises will be completely fulfilled through Jesus Christ.
Revelation 5 answers the greatest question in heaven: Who is worthy? The answer is Jesus Christ alone. As the Lion of Judah and the slain Lamb of God, He fulfilled God’s covenant through His sacrifice and now holds the authority to complete His Redemption Plan. Heaven responds with unending worship because the Savior who redeemed humanity is also the King who will fulfill every promise and reign forever.
