Paul opens Galatians by declaring the unchanging Gospel of Jesus Christ, Glory for Ever and Ever, who gave Himself for our sins according to God’s eternal redemption plan. Called by God’s grace, Paul defends the one true message of salvation against every false teaching. His transformed life brings glory to God, proving that faith, obedience, and grace alone lead believers into everlasting hope and eternal life.

📖 Galatians 1:1-3
“1 Paul, an apostle—sent not from men nor by a man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— 2 and all the brothers and sisters[a] with me,
To the churches in Galatia:”
“3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,”
📖 Galatians 1:4–10
“4 who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5 to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”
“6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!”
“10 Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
Paul begins his letter by establishing that his apostleship came directly from Jesus Christ and God the Father, not from human appointment or authority.
He greets the churches of Galatia with grace and peace, immediately pointing believers to the heart of the Gospel:
Jesus Christ gave Himself for our sins to rescue humanity from the present evil age according to the will of God the Father.
This is God’s eternal covenant and redemption plan fulfilled through His Son. Salvation is not earned by human effort but provided through Christ’s sacrifice, bringing believers into a restored relationship with God.
Paul closes his introduction by giving all glory to God forever, reminding believers that every part of salvation belongs to Him alone.
📖 Galatians 1:11–14
“11 I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin. 12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.”
“13 For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it. 14 I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers.”
Paul quickly addresses a serious problem within the churches.
Some believers were abandoning the true Gospel by following false teachers who distorted the message of Christ.
Paul makes an unmistakable declaration:
There is no other Gospel.
Even if an angel from heaven preached a different message, it must be rejected.
God’s redemption plan never changes because it is founded upon Jesus Christ alone.
The Gospel is not shaped by popular opinion or human approval.
True servants of Christ seek to please God rather than people, remaining faithful to His truth regardless of opposition.
📖 Galatians 1:15–20
“15 But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, was pleased 16 to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, my immediate response was not to consult any human being. 17 I did not go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went into Arabia. Later I returned to Damascus.”
“18 Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Cephas[b] and stayed with him fifteen days. 19 I saw none of the other apostles—only James, the Lord’s brother. 20 I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie.”
Paul explains that the Gospel he preached was not learned from human teachers.
It came directly through a revelation of Jesus Christ.
He reminds the Galatians of his former life as Saul—a zealous persecutor who tried to destroy the church of God.
Yet God’s grace intervened.
The same man who once opposed Christ was called by God to preach the Gospel among the Gentiles.
Paul’s transformation demonstrates the power of God’s grace and the purpose of His redemption plan.
God does not merely forgive sinners—He transforms them into faithful servants for His glory.
📖 Galatians 1:21–24
“21 Then I went to Syria and Cilicia. 22 I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. 23 They only heard the report: “The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.” 24 And they praised God because of me.”
After receiving his calling, Paul spent time preparing before meeting Peter (Cephas) and James in Jerusalem.
Although many believers had never personally met him, news of his remarkable transformation spread throughout the churches.
They said:
“The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.”
Their response was not to praise Paul but to praise God.
Paul’s life became living evidence of God’s grace, proving that no heart is beyond the reach of Jesus Christ.
His changed life directed attention away from himself and toward the God who saves.
From the beginning, God’s covenant has pointed toward salvation through His promised Messiah.
Jesus Christ fulfilled that promise by giving Himself for our sins and calling people from every nation into His family.
The Gospel remains unchanged because God’s redemption plan is eternal.
Paul’s conversion reminds believers that God’s grace can transform any life, giving new direction, lasting faith, and joyful purpose in serving Christ.
Jesus Christ gave Himself to rescue humanity from sin.
There is only one true Gospel.
God’s truth must never be replaced by human teaching.
God’s calling comes through His grace, not human achievement.
No one is beyond God’s power to transform.
The Gospel is for both Jews and Gentiles.
Faithful obedience brings glory to God.
A transformed life becomes a testimony of God’s redemption plan.
Galatians 1 establishes the unchanging foundation of the Christian faith: salvation comes only through Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross. Paul boldly defends the true Gospel while showing that God’s grace can completely transform a life. The persecutor became the preacher, and the churches praised God because of what He had done. Through His covenant and redemption plan, God continues calling people from every nation to faith, giving them new purpose, new direction, and a life that brings glory to Him forever.
