From before the creation of the world, God established His redemption plan through Jesus Christ For Us Who Believe. Ephesians 1 reveals the immeasurable riches of God’s grace, the forgiveness of sins through Christ’s blood, and the promised inheritance sealed by the Holy Spirit. His great power continues to strengthen every faithful believer for His eternal purpose.

📖 Ephesians 1:1-2
“1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God,
To God’s holy people in Ephesus,[a] the faithful in Christ Jesus:”
“2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
📖 Ephesians 1:3–4
“3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love”
Paul opens his letter by greeting the faithful in Christ with grace and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. He immediately turns all praise toward God, declaring that believers have been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms through Jesus Christ.
God’s covenant has always centered on His Son. Every blessing, every promise, and every hope is found in Christ alone. The redemption plan is not built upon human achievement but upon God’s grace freely given through His beloved Son.
📖 Ephesians 1:5–6
“5 he[b] predestined us for adoption to sonship[c] through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.”
Before the foundations of the world were laid, God purposed that His people would be made holy and blameless through Jesus Christ. In His love, He planned for believers to become His children through adoption according to His perfect will.
This reveals the depth of God’s covenant. His redemption plan was never an afterthought brought about because of sin. From the beginning, God was working according to His eternal purpose, displaying His glorious grace through Jesus Christ.
📖 Ephesians 1:7–10
“7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, 9 he[d] made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.”
Through the blood of Jesus Christ, believers receive redemption and the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of God’s grace. What humanity could never accomplish through its own efforts, Christ completed through His sacrifice on the cross.
God also revealed the mystery of His will—to unite everything in heaven and on earth under Christ when His perfect timing is fulfilled.
From Genesis to Revelation, every covenant, prophecy, sacrifice, and promise points toward this single purpose: Jesus Christ is the center of God’s eternal redemption plan.
📖 Ephesians 1:11–14
“11 In him we were also chosen,[e] having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.”
Paul declares that believers have been chosen according to the plan of God, who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will. Those who hear the gospel, believe in Jesus Christ, and place their faith in Him are sealed with the promised Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit serves as God’s guarantee that our eternal inheritance is secure until the day of complete redemption.
God’s covenant continues to unfold exactly as He promised. Every generation, every event, and every faithful servant becomes another piece of His unfolding redemption plan, all according to His perfect will.
📖 Ephesians 1:15–19
“15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[f] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength “
Paul continually thanks God for the believers in Ephesus and prays that they will receive wisdom and revelation through the Holy Spirit. He asks that the eyes of their hearts be opened so they may understand three incredible truths:
The hope of God’s calling.
The riches of His glorious inheritance.
His incomparably great power for those who believe.
Faith is not built upon human strength but upon God’s power working within His people. The same God who planned redemption also empowers believers to faithfully walk in obedience.
📖 Ephesians 1:20–23
20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
The power available to believers is the very power God demonstrated when He raised Jesus Christ from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms.
Christ reigns above every ruler, authority, power, and dominion—not only in this age but in the age to come. God has placed all things under His authority and appointed Him as Head over the Church, His body, which displays His fullness throughout the earth.
The redemption plan reaches its certainty because Jesus Christ reigns with absolute authority over all creation.
From before creation until eternity, God’s covenant has always pointed to Jesus Christ.
God planned redemption before the world began.
Sin entered the world, but God’s purpose never changed.
Redemption comes only through the blood of Jesus Christ.
Believers are adopted into God’s family through grace.
The Holy Spirit guarantees our eternal inheritance.
Christ reigns over every authority and every generation.
God’s eternal plan continues exactly as He has promised.
Every believer becomes part of His unfolding redemption story.
God’s covenant began before the creation of the world.
Redemption is found only through the blood of Jesus Christ.
Salvation is entirely the work of God’s grace.
God’s eternal purpose is fulfilled through Christ.
The Holy Spirit seals every believer for eternity.
God’s power strengthens those who place their faith in Him.
Jesus Christ rules over every power and authority.
Every believer is invited to participate in God’s eternal redemption plan through faith and obedience.
Ephesians 1 lifts our eyes beyond history and reveals God’s eternal perspective. Before creation, God established His covenant through Jesus Christ. Through His blood, forgiveness and redemption became available to all who believe. The Holy Spirit guarantees our inheritance, while Christ reigns above every authority with incomparable power. For those who believe, God’s redemption plan is not merely a promise for the future—it is a present reality secured by His grace and fulfilled through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
