📖 Revelation 20:1 (NIV)
“20 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain.”

“2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. 3 He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.”
An angel descends from heaven holding the key to the Abyss and a great chain. Satan—the ancient serpent, the devil—is bound for a thousand years so he can no longer deceive the nations. During this time, those who remained faithful to Jesus Christ, refusing the beast and its mark despite persecution, are raised to reign with Christ.
This first resurrection reveals God’s covenant faithfulness. Those who trusted Christ receive victory over death, becoming priests of God and reigning with Him. The second death has no power over those redeemed through God’s salvation.
📖 Revelation 20:4–6 (NIV)
“4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They[a] had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.”
John sees believers who suffered unjust persecution because of their testimony about Jesus Christ and the Word of God. Though the world rejected them, God honors their faithfulness.
Revelation reminds believers that earthly suffering is never forgotten by God. Every sacrifice made for Christ becomes part of His eternal redemption plan, where obedience is rewarded with everlasting life.
📖 Revelation 20:7–10 (NIV)
“7 When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—and to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. 9 They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God’s people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. 10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”
After the thousand years, Satan is released for a short time and once again deceives the nations. Gathering countless armies against God’s people, he attempts one final rebellion.
But the battle ends immediately.
Fire comes down from heaven and consumes the enemies of God. The devil is thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, joining the beast and the false prophet, where they face eternal judgment.
The great deceiver who led humanity into sin from the beginning is finally defeated forever.

“11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.”
John then sees the Great White Throne, where every person stands before God. The books are opened, including the Book of Life, and every individual is judged according to what has been recorded.
This judgment demonstrates God’s perfect justice. Nothing is hidden. Every life is fully known before the Creator.
Death and Hades themselves are cast into the lake of fire, marking the complete end of sin, death, and their power over humanity.
📖 Revelation 20:15 (NIV)
“15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.”
The most important book opened is the Book of Life.
Those whose names are written in it belong to Christ through God’s redemption plan. Those whose names are absent face the second death.
Throughout Scripture, God’s desire has always been to bring people into covenant through faith. Jesus Christ made that possible through His death and resurrection, providing salvation for all who believe in Him.
From Genesis to Revelation, God has never abandoned His covenant.
Every promise God made reaches its fulfillment because His redemption plan cannot fail.
God has complete authority over Satan.
Faithfulness to Jesus Christ is never forgotten.
Obedience brings eternal rewards.
God’s justice is perfect and impartial.
The Book of Life determines our eternal destiny.
The second death has no power over those redeemed by Christ.
Satan’s rebellion ends in complete defeat.
