Joseph informed Pharaoh that his father and brothers had arrived from Canaan.
He selected five of his brothers and presented them before Pharaoh.
When Pharaoh asked about their occupation, they answered honestly:
“Your servants are shepherds, just as our fathers were.”
They explained that the famine remained severe and requested permission to live in Goshen.
Pharaoh responded with remarkable generosity:
“Settle your father and your brothers in the best part of the land.”
What began as a journey for survival became an opportunity for blessing.
God had already prepared the way before they arrived.

“7 Then Joseph brought his father Jacob in and presented him before Pharaoh. After Jacob blessed[a] Pharaoh, 8 Pharaoh asked him, “How old are you?”
“9 And Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty. My years have been few and difficult, and they do not equal the years of the pilgrimage of my fathers.” 10 Then Jacob blessed[b] Pharaoh and went out from his presence.”
Joseph then brought his father Jacob before Pharaoh.
Before speaking of himself, Jacob blessed the ruler of Egypt.

The aged shepherd stood before one of the most powerful men in the world, yet Scripture records Jacob blessing Pharaoh.
When asked about his age, Jacob replied:
“The years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty.”
Jacob reflected honestly on his difficult journey.
His life had included deception, loss, hardship, and sorrow.
Yet through every trial, God had remained faithful to His covenant promises.
Even after all he had endured, Jacob stood as a living testimony of God’s sustaining grace.

“11 So Joseph settled his father and his brothers in Egypt and gave them property in the best part of the land, the district of Rameses, as Pharaoh directed. 12 Joseph also provided his father and his brothers and all his father’s household with food, according to the number of their children.”
As Pharaoh directed, Joseph settled his family in the best part of Egypt.
They received property in the region of Goshen.
Joseph also provided food for his father, brothers, and their households.
While famine continued throughout the land, God’s covenant family had what they needed.
The Lord was not only preserving individual lives.
He was preserving the family through which His promises would continue.
The same God who had protected Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob was now protecting future generations.
This chapter demonstrates that God’s covenant was moving forward exactly as He promised.
The famine did not stop God’s plan.
The move to Egypt did not stop God’s plan.
The hardships of previous generations did not stop God’s plan.
God provided:
A place to live.
Food during famine.
Favor before Pharaoh.
Opportunities for work and responsibility.
Protection for the covenant family.
Behind every detail stood the faithfulness of God.
God often provides before we recognize the need.
Obedience places us where God’s blessings can unfold.
Skills and abilities can become opportunities for service and provision.

The Lord remains faithful during seasons of famine and difficulty.

Genesis 47 shows God’s faithfulness in action. Jacob’s family arrived in Egypt because of famine, yet God turned a season of crisis into a season of provision. Pharaoh offered them the best part of the land, opportunities to serve, and protection during difficult times. Through Joseph, God supplied everything they needed.
The Lord who guided Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob was still working behind the scenes. What looked like a temporary refuge in Egypt was actually part of God’s greater covenant plan. His provision sustained the family, His protection surrounded them, and His promises continued moving forward exactly as He intended.
