As the final moments before Jesus’ arrest unfolded, the Last Supper had ended, teachings were complete. Into the Garden of Surrender where prayers were lifted to the Father. What happens next is not a scene of chaos or surprise—but one of calm, holy submission. Jesus steps knowingly and willingly into the place where prophecy, obedience, and salvation converge.

John 18:1 marks the transition from Jesus’ final teachings to the beginning of His passion. After praying His great High Priestly Prayer (John 17), Jesus leads His disciples across the Kidron Valley—an area associated with sacrifice, sorrow, and purification. On the other side lies a garden, traditionally understood to be Gethsemane.
