Before Jesus shared the Last Supper with His disciples, Redeemed by the Lamb. God had already written the pattern of redemption into Israel’s history. The Passover was not only a moment of deliverance for the Israelites—it was a prophetic picture pointing directly to Christ, the perfect Passover Lamb.
Exodus 12:1–14 lays the foundation for everything the Last Supper represents: sacrifice, salvation, obedience, and remembrance.
📖 “This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the LORD—a lasting ordinance.”
(Exodus 12:14, NIV)
God instructed Moses to prepare Israel for the final plague—the judgment that would free them from slavery. But salvation wasn’t automatic. Each household had to sacrifice an unblemished lamb, apply the blood to their doorposts, and remain under its covering.
The Passover lamb was not symbolic—it was life-saving. When judgment passed through Egypt, God said, “When I see the blood, I will pass over you.” (v.13)
This moment becomes the foundation for understanding Jesus’ sacrifice.
Just as Israel needed the lamb’s blood to live, we need Christ’s blood to be saved.
It reveals the cost of salvation. Deliverance required a sacrifice—the innocent dying for the guilty.
It shows the power of obedience. Israel survived because they did exactly what God commanded.
It connects the Old and New Covenant. Passover points directly to Jesus, “the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.”
It teaches us to remember. God commanded His people to celebrate this moment for generations—so they never forgot the night grace covered them.
Live under Christ’s covering. Your salvation is found in His sacrifice alone.
Walk in obedience. Just as Israel followed God’s instructions step by step, faith today is lived through obedience to His Word.
Remember what God has done. Celebrate Christ’s sacrifice with gratitude and reverence.
Share the message of deliverance. Just as Passover was a testimony, so is your salvation.
The Passover wasn’t just an ancient ritual—it was God’s first great picture of redemption, fulfilled perfectly in Jesus Christ.
The lamb’s blood saved Israel for a night.
Christ’s blood saves us for eternity.
