Life is full of moments where regret and the past try to hold us back. A New Thing, scripture reminds us that God is not bound by what has already happened. He is always moving forward, working in new and unexpected ways. Isaiah 43:18–19 speaks to this truth with a clear call to release the past and embrace the future God has prepared:
📖 “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
The prophet Isaiah was speaking to people who had endured hardship, exile, and disappointment. God’s message to them was clear: Don’t dwell on the past—look ahead to the new work I am bringing forth.
This passage reveals two key truths:
God is not limited by our history.
He can create life, hope, and renewal even in barren places.
Freedom from regret – God doesn’t want us to be trapped by mistakes or pain from the past.
Hope in hardship – Even in deserts of despair, God promises rivers of refreshment.
Focus on the future – God calls us to look forward with eyes of faith, not backward in defeat.
Let go of the past – Release bitterness, shame, or failures, trusting God’s forgiveness.
Watch for God’s work – Pay attention to the “new thing” He may already be starting in your life.
Stay hopeful – In dry or difficult seasons, expect God to provide strength, direction, and renewal.
Isaiah 43:18–19 reminds us that God is the God of fresh beginnings. The past does not define us—His grace does. By letting go of what was and embracing what He is doing, we discover rivers of hope in our deserts and paths of life in our wilderness.
