Build on Rock: When Jesus taught His disciples and the crowds who followed Him, He often used parables—simple stories with powerful truths. One of the most memorable is the parable of the wise and foolish builders (Matthew 7:24–27, Luke 6:46–49). In this story, Jesus compared two men: one who built his house on solid rock, and another who built his house on sand.
Jesus said:
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” — Matthew 7:24–25
The wise builder is the one who not only hears God’s Word but also applies it. His foundation is solid, unshaken by the storms of life.
In contrast, Jesus continued:
“But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” — Matthew 7:26–27
The foolish builder may look strong on the surface, but without a firm foundation in Christ, his life cannot withstand hardship, temptation, or trials.
The Storms Will Come
Jesus did not say if the storms come—He said when. Trials, doubts, and struggles are part of life. A shaky foundation will collapse under pressure, but a firm one endures.
Hearing vs. Doing
It’s not enough to hear the Word of God on Sundays or read it occasionally. The true test is living it out—showing forgiveness, choosing honesty, loving your neighbor, and trusting God in uncertainty.
Christ as the Rock
The rock foundation represents Jesus Himself. When our lives are built on Him—His truth, His promises, His love—we can stand secure.
Every house needs a foundation, and so does every life. A foundation of wealth, fame, or self-reliance may seem strong but will eventually crumble. Building on the rock means building on Jesus—trusting Him as Savior and following His teachings.
When the storms of life rise—and they will—you can rest knowing your foundation is unshakable.
“For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” — 1 Corinthians 3:11
